Today, the town is an attractive, welcoming and economically successful area that benefits from its cosmopolitan feel and a host of shops and entertainment.
High street retailers rub shoulders with independent stores to offer a wide range of shopping. Bars, cafes and restaurants provide plenty of places to meet friends and catch up. There’s an 11-screen cinema complex, bowling alley and theatre. And if that still isn’t enough, the clubs and live music venues guarantee you’ve somewhere to head and hang out late into the evening.
Further afield, Valentines Park is the largest green space in the borough. It plays host to Valentines Mansion & Gardens, a magnificent Georgian house and tranquil walled garden that includes a unique dry garden opened by the Queen in 2012. Seven Kings Park holds the prestigious Green Flag award for cleanliness. There is a skate park and children’s play area and the grounds are extremely popular with dog walkers, joggers or those keen to sit and take in the views.
